Title: With Visions of Red (Broken Bonds, Book One)
Author: Trisha Wolfe
Release Date: May 7th 2015
GoodReads Blurb:
Criminal profiler Sadie Bonds knows blood. Her affair with the gruesome, dark world of killers began long before she started applying her analytical skills to investigate gory crime scenes. She gets inside the killers’ heads, breaks them down, relates to them on an arcane level. She prefers it this way—because it’s safer to ally herself with the villain than the victim. At least, that’s how she’s coped ever since she was abducted and tortured as a teen.
She will never be a victim again.
Now, she’s honed her skills in order to bring justice to these ritualistic offenders. Working alongside her colleagues, armed with sharp wit and a SIG, Sadie always catches her sadist. Until one ruthless serial killer gets inside Sadie’s head, turning the tables. He knows her secrets. Her obsessions. The darkest, most deviant part of her soul.
When she meets Colton Reed, dangerous stakes are raised as he threatens to unravel her control and reveal her darkest fantasies. The sexy-as-sin bondage rigger at an exclusive BDSM club pushes her boundaries, forcing her to acknowledge that side of herself she fears. Plunged into a realm of torture and suffering, pain and pleasure, Sadie balances on the razor-sharp edge of two intersecting worlds threatening to swallow her.
Passion and lust ignite. Dark and light battle. This explosive first installment of the Broken Bonds series sets the exhilarating pace for a cat and mouse game where no one knows who’s really pulling the strings.
I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Where to begin... This is one of those reviews that is really hard to write because you can't find words to describe how good the book really is. I like to actually write well thought out reviews. The way to know that a book really blew my mind is when my reviews ramble on like this one is.
I love Trisha's writing. This the third book of hers I've read and I loved the other two but this was something different. I knew from the time I read the first teaser that she posted for her street team, the Tuff Girl Legion, that I had to read this book. The second it came out. So of course I was ecstatic to receive an ARC.
This book mixes an intense sexy romance with criminal profiling. I love a good sexy romance and honestly, criminal profiling is something I've found interesting for quite a while. So seeing these two things put into the same book had me turning pages (figuratively) like crazy.
The tension between Colton and Sadie is so potent I could feel it radiating from the page and my breath got caught in my throat many times while reading their interactions. There is BDSM in this book but it isn't there just to be there, it is an integral part of the story. And I thought that is was so well done and so well written.
I loved the multiple Points of View because I got to see inside the head of Sadie, Colton and the UNSUB. Trisha does an amazing job of pulling you into each world and her words are so beautiful. Even during chapters in the UNSUB's Point of View she infuses a beauty with her words into that dark world.
I've always had this thing about good and evil, light and dark, what we are all really capable of. And this book explores that topic incredibly well. I can't say too much more without giving something away, but I can't recommend this book enough. Especially if you are into dark romantic thrillers. 5 quills!!
