In 2008, J.K. Rowling delivered a deeply affecting commencement speech at Harvard University. Now published for the first time in book form, Very Good Lives offers J.K. Rowling’s words of wisdom for anyone at a turning point in life, asking the profound and provocative questions: How can we embrace failure? And how can we use our imagination to better both ourselves and others?
Drawing from stories of her own post-graduate years, the world-famous author addresses some of life’s most important issues with acuity and emotional force.
Review:
It is no secret to most anyone that knows me that I love J. K. Rowling. Harry Potter will forever be one of my favorite series and one of the series closest to my heart. Therefore, I will always love the woman who wrote it. I own almost every book that she'e ever written . (I'm one short). The day that I saw this book was available I ordered it right away.
I read this sitting out on my little balcony in less than an hour but don't let the short reading time make you think less of what's in it. I loved every second of this. I learned things about J. K. Rowling that I had never known and loved her even more after I had finished it. This is an inspiriting read. Not just for college graduates but for anyone who needs some inspiration in their life. One of my favorite ever quotes apparently came from this commencement speech.
"Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life."
I know that this something I will forever keep and will go back to over and over again. I recommend this wholehearedtly. This one absolutely gets 5 quills from me!!
