This is a dark erotic thriller intended for adult audiences.
The UNSUB has made contact.
After a rapid string of grisly murders shakes the usually peaceful city of Arlington, Virginia, the sadistic killings of young women lull into a deceptive calm. Agent Sadie Bonds knows the terror isn’t over; serial killers don’t stop until caught.
And this sadist has targeted the profiler, revealing pieces of her dark past and weaving her secrets into each gruesome crime scene. Is the killer someone from Sadie’s past, her present? Or is he part of a fated future she brought on herself? The answer lies within the riddle of the copycat killings, ones mimicked after the infamous Blood Countess.
As tension brews in the department awaiting the UNSUB’s next move, Sadie’s more than on edge—her deviant cravings for the possible perpetrator have ratcheted out of control. She needs the feel of Colton’s ropes binding her, sheltering her from stark reality.
Only Colton Reed has his own twisted secrets that threaten to unravel not only Sadie as they come to light, but the UNSUB’s carefully constructed web now entangling both the profiler and her sexy bondage rigger.
Is Sadie too close to this case to be objective, or is the UNSUB closer to her than she ever imagined…
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I just finished this book about an hour ago. It was absolutely amazing. Once I sat down reading it, I was in that world completely. Just sucked into what was going on. That is the best type of book, one where you lose yourself in it.
The tension between Colton and Sadie doesn't lose any of it's steaminess. They could just be talking and their connection sizzles. But as for the more steamy scenes, I must say, Fifty Shades of Grey has nothing on this book! I also love that they deepen their trust and bond to one another. The alternating Points of View really help to get the reader into the character's minds. I love when POV alternates, letting us see more than one characters' thoughts and motivations.
Another Point of View that the reader gets with these books is the UNSUB's. It's both terrifying and terrifyingly fascinating. We get to see more into the mind of the UNSUB during this book and I have my theories about how the UNSUB is connected to Sadie and who it may be.
I also think that the writing itself was beautiful. Through all three POVs, to be completely honest. We get to know more about Sadie and Colton's separate pasts and we also get more insight into their own motivations. The first book definitely ended with a surprise that made me gasp aloud but the cliffhanger at the end of this book quite literally knocked the wind out of me. I really, really wish that book three was out so that I could read it right now. I think that I can say with a good measure of confidence that this series will be one that gets a special place on my shelf. As well as a spot on my list of favorite series. No question about it - 5 quills!!
